Abstract

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) remains an important cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis in the newborn infant. Although these are the most common clinical manifestations, GBS can cause a wide variety of focal infections. Isolated lymphadenitis is a rare form of presentation and may be the only sign of bacteraemia.

Recurrence of infection is rare but could be related to the persistence of mucosal carriage of GBS despite appropriate antimicrobial treatment for the invasive infection.

We describe a case of a two-month-old male with recurrent GBS infection and lymphadenitis.
